Snacks, snacks, snacks!

Snacks that are packed with nutrients and can help keep your energy levels up throughout the day are important. Here are some of the best plant-based snack foods (in our opinion):

  1. Nuts: Nuts are a great source of healthy fats, fibre, and protein. They’re also rich in vitamins and minerals. Have a mix of different nuts to get a mix of different nutrients and vitamins
  2. Seeds: Seeds are a great source of protein and healthy fats. They’re also rich in fibre, vitamins, and minerals. Chia seeds, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds are all great options and can be added to your nuts, or made into crackers – we’ve got a couple of really good seed cracker recipes in FastTrack.
  3. Fresh Fruit: Fresh fruit is a great snack option, we recommend eating seasonal fresh fruit with a pottle of coconut yoghurt so you get some protein in at the same time
  4. Dried Fruit: Dried fruit is a convenient and tasty snack option that’s high in fibre and antioxidants. Check the sugar content though as some brands add extra sugar in the process
  5. Vegetables: Vegetables are a great source of vitamins, minerals, and fibre. They’re also low in calories and can help keep you feeling full between meals. Carrots, cucumber, celery, and cherry tomatoes are some great snack options.
  6. Hummus: Hummus is a delicious and nutritious snack option that’s high in protein and healthy fats. It’s made from chickpeas and is often flavoured with herbs and spices. Have hummus with your vegetables or seed crackers
  7. Nut Butter: Nut butter is a great source of healthy fats and protein. It can be spread on sourdough, rice cakes, or eaten with fruit or vegetables. Peanut butter, almond butter, and cashew butter are some of the most popular options and these are readily available in supermarkets.
  8. Popcorn: Popcorn is a low-calorie snack option that’s high in fibre. It’s a great alternative to potato chips and other unhealthy snacks. Air-popped popcorn is the healthiest option, but you can also make your own popcorn at home with a small amount of oil in a pot.

Snacks are a great way to boost your energy and keep your hunger at bay between meals. Have your snacks readily on hand so that if you get peckish its easy to choose the healthy and plant based option first.
